Description: Mount Marapi is located in Sumatra Indonesia, the south-east of the town of Bukittinggi. It's name means Mountain of Fire. The height of this mountain is 2891m above sea level and an active volcanic mountain. According to the legend, the mountain is the site first settled by the Minangkabau people after their ship landed on the mountain when it was the size of an egg and surrounded by water. The best thing to do is to climb at night so you can reach the crater area for a sunrise. The view from Marapi crater area is staggering. The journey should take about 4-5 hours to reach the summit. The first part of the ascend is by walking along the local orchard and farm to reach the first camp which is the door of the forest area.
